A MAJOR event that saw sites across the District lit up as part of eye catching art installations will be held every two years.

Bradford Is Lit took place in early November, with highlights including a man-made Northern Lights show above the City Park Mirror Pool, installations at Bradford Cathedral, projections on the Wool Exchange and Keighley Library and an audio-visual installation in Bingley.

Held over two nights, the event attracted an extra 20,000 people to the city centre, with estimates that overall 30,000 people attended the events across the district.

Although praised as a success, there has been no public mention of whether it would become a recurring event.

Bradford Dance Festival's success 'far outweighs expectations'

Now a new report has revealed that it will be held every two years, with the next Bradford Is Lit coming in 2023.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority recently underwent an "audit" of all the festivals in West Yorkshire.

The audit says: "A biennial festival next taking place in 2023, the festival will be made up of bespoke commissions for Bradford, one off unique experience and a series of local and national artists celebrating the beauty of Bradford district in all its glory."

In total 14 recurring festivals in Bradford are included in the report, ranging from Bradford Literature Festival to the Keighley Arts and Film Festival.
