SOMEONE rang the 999 emergency line...because a man had been locked out of his house.

West Yorkshire Police's Contact Management Centre regularly shared details of the call on social media to highlight the importance of using 999 for emergency calls only.

The team often tweets some of the more unusual phone calls they receive from the general public.

In its latest example, the team said: "Male ringing 999 multiple times as he is locked out of his own house. Try a locksmith maybe? #Not999 #NotAPoliceMatter.”

Previous calls to the contact centre have included someone called 999 to ask them to book some driving lessons for them.

Another previous call came from a 999 caller who had diarrhoea and did not know where the nearest toilet was.
