A DRUG driver who reached speeds of more than 90mph on Bradford roads during a police chase has been jailed.

Mathew Noble, 32, was pursued by officers along a number of roads in Bradford during the chase which lasted more than 15 minutes.

He was initially spotted by police officers in a Vauxhall Insignia car on Leeds Road, Bradford, just before 12.40am.

He was then clocked driving at speeds including 80mph and 70mph in a 30mph on Dick Lane during the incident.

He also drove on the wrong side of the road a number of times and went through red traffic lights.

Noble was clocked at a highest speed of 96mph on Tong Street, Bradford, by pursuing police officers.

He also evaded police using a ‘stinger’ technique to stop cars.

At one point, Noble drove the wrong way around Thornbury roundabout in Bradford.

Members of the public in vehicles were forced to take evasive action to avoid crashes during Noble’s dangerous driving, the court heard.

Noble also overtook multiple heavy goods vehicles when he drove on the wrong side of the road during the chase.

When he was eventually stopped by police after travelling down a dead end, Noble was found to be sweating profusely, telling officers he had panicked which led to him speeding.

He was jailed for a total of 18 months for the three counts; driving a motor vehicle dangerously and two charges of driving motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit; for cannabis and ketamine.

The incident took place on May 27, 2020, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

In mitigation, the court heard Noble, of Rowe Close, Pontefract, had struggles with his mental health and drug and alcohol use. But he had stopped using both drugs and alcohol since his daughter was born just before Christmas 2021.

Noble had a record of 18 convictions for 26 offences but had no previous driving-related offences.

He was also disqualified from driving for three years.

Judge Andrew Hatton told Noble: “This sort of driving in Bradford will not be tolerated.

“Not only did you drive in that way, but you took two different substances which substantially impaired your ability to drive.

“You were involved in an appalling and sustained piece of dangerous driving.

“You evaded techniques used by the police to stop you.

“You drove on the wrong side of the road for long periods of time.

“A number of police officers were involved in the pursuit, putting their own lives at risk.”
