A CROWD of people gathered for a rally in Bradford city centre this afternoon to show their support for the people of Ukraine.

Bradford man Simon Geoghegan said the 40 people who gathered in City Park around 2pm had various reasons for attending the rally.

Some had relatives from Ukraine and some were local residents who just wanted to show their support.

Simon said: "It was a great day because it was a lot of disconnected people who came together for one common goal - to support Ukraine.

"My partner comes from Latvia and I worry that they could be next in the firing line. I can hardly watch the news these days."

Simon was buoyed the creativity of people at the rally.

"You can't get a Ukraine flag these days, so it was marvellous that many people improvised and made their own flags or placards.

"We all became friends over this issue. Bradford has quite rich history with the people of Ukraine."

"We hope to have more Ukraine rallies."

Simon added that donations people are making now need to start focusing on the Ukraine refugees who will soon be arriving in the UK.

"A lot needs to be kept for the refugees coming to Bradford."
