AFTER two years of disruption, the Campaign for Real Ale’s Bradford Branch has restarted its awards process and announced three winners.

Following the nomination and judging undertaken over recent months, the results of the Bradford Branch Pub of the Year 2022, Cider Pub of the Year 2022 and Club of the Year 2022 are announced.

As in previous years, the Bradford Branch Pub of the Year 2022 was selected from a range of establishments within the area, as nominated by branch members.

A shortlist of pubs was determined from the nominations and these were judged in accordance with CAMRA guidance and took into consideration the following:

• Quality and condition of real ale/cider/perry;

• Promotion and knowledge of real ale/cider/perry;

• Cleanliness and staff hygiene;

• Service, welcome and offering;

• Style, décor and furnishing;

• Community focus and atmosphere;

• Sympathy with CAMRA aims;

• Overall impression and value.

Pubs within the Central Bradford area and in the surrounding Outer Bradford area were judged independently.

A winner was announced for each area, with the pub receiving the highest score declared the overall winner.

The results are:

• CAMRA Bradford Branch Pub of the Year 2022 (and Outer Bradford Pub of the Year 2022) (Overall Winner): Salt Cellar, Saltaire

• Central Bradford Pub of the Year 2022 (Winner): Record Café

Bradford Runners-Up:

• Corn Dolly, Bradford (Central Bradford)

• Exchange Craft Beerhouse, Bradford (Central Bradford)

• Cap and Collar, Saltaire (Outer Bradford)

• Hullabaloo, Shipley (Outer Bradford)

Peter Down, CAMRA Bradford branch pubs officer, said: “The overall standard of pubs continues to rise year on year.

"The last two years have been extremely hard for those in the pub trade.

"It is a credit to all involved that we have seen so many pubs survive the impacts of the recent Covid-19 restrictions and come out of it with renewed determination.

"During the time of enforced lockdowns and restrictions, many have considered and implemented ways to improve.

"The winners and runners-up should all be extremely proud for having achieved recognition against such stiff competition.”

“The Salt Cellar in Saltaire is a well-deserved winner. Throughout the pandemic, Donna and her team did the utmost to keep the pub running and had to constantly think of different ways to adapt to the ever-changing restrictions.

"The lockdowns were spent improving the pub, including the provision of a refurbished beer garden.

"Support to the local community was also considered. Since restrictions were lifted, the Salt Cellar has kept its full complement of ever-changing real ales and maintained the high standards for which it has become known.

"The love and respect for the pub was reflected in the number of nominations received. It is an honour to award it CAMRA Bradford Branch Pub of the Year 2022 (Overall Winner).”

"The CAMRA Bradford Branch Cider Pub of the Year 2022 is Jacobs Well in Bradford city centre. This result highlights the range and quality of real ciders and perries that the pub continues to offer. It also reflects the standard of the pub as a whole.

"The CAMRA Bradford Branch Club of the Year 2022 is Saltaire Bar (formerly Shipley & District Social Club) in Shipley. Over recent years, many clubs have suffered from an aging and dwindling membership which has, ultimately, resulted in their closure. It is a credit to the Saltaire Bar that it has continued against these adversities."
