A burglar who “cleared out” a Bradford bar by stealing £400 of spirits and multiple bottles of wine has been jailed for 13 months.

Steven Bentley and two accomplices targeted Bar 56 on Bingley Road, Saltaire, on February 17, stuffing the raided alcohol into a large duffle bag, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Bentley, 37, of Norwood Avenue, Shipley, committed the offence at night and the intruders did £400 damage.

He pleaded guilty to burglary and to offences of criminal damage at The Strand Hairdressing on Saltaire Road, Shipley, and dishonestly receiving a stolen television set, also on February 17.

The court heard that he damaged a glass panel at the salon and was caught with some of the stolen alcohol and the TV set at his home.

He was sentenced on a video link to HMP Leeds where he was remanded in custody.

Bentley’s barrister, Frances Pencheon, said he pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and had rid himself of his drug addiction.

He had the support of his family who had attended court.

Recorder Andrew Haslam QC said Bentley was one of three people who smashed a large glass window with a brick to burgle the bar.

Two thieves in hoods entered the property and “cleared” the bar of alcohol, causing up to £400 damage and stealing £400 of spirits, multiple bottles of wine and a laptop com-puter.

They took a large duffle bag to put the raided alcohol in.

Recorder Haslam said the burglary was at night while Bentley was under the influence of alcohol and drugs and in breach of a community order for criminal damage and han-dling stolen goods.
