PROFESSOR Chris Whitty, the Chief Medical Officer for England, visited Bradford yesterday.

Sir Whitty spoke with health professionals at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to hear about some the major initiatives and studies being undertaken in the district.

He also visited the Al Mustafa Centre in Girlington, where he was given an overview of the work being done to help tackle obesity, particularly among South Asian children.

Sarah Muckle, Bradford Council's Director of Public Health, said: “It was a privilege to welcome Sir Chris to our district and we were proud to show off some of the great work we are doing in Bradford to tackle health inequalities such as obesity and the promotion of clean air zones.

"Sir Chris took the time to meet with staff from the hospital to better understand their experiences of working through the pandemic.

"He was also interested in the industry-leading work being undertaken by our research centre in the field of Genes and Immunology.”
