A BRADFORD City-led appeal calling for aid to send to people in Ukraine has already attracted donations from those in the district.

The Bantams, alongside its charity, the Community Foundation and Human Relief Foundation, has launched an emergency appeal amid the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Kind-hearted Bradford district residents, touched by the plight of the Ukraine people, have already handed in donations of money or essential items, including clothing, to the club's appeal.

The Community Foundation is hosting two dedicated drop-off points, where supporters are able to donate emergency aid such as food, drink, clothing and medical supplies which will be shipped to Ukraine.

These two points, at The City Shop at the Utilita Energy Stadium and at Horsfall Community Stadium, the home ground of Bradford (Park Avenue), are both open for donations during normal business hours.

They will also be open for each home matchday at Valley Parade and the Horsfall.

As part of the appeal, the club has launched an official JustGiving fundraiser, which first featured during last Saturday’s game against Swindon Town.

All proceeds from this page will be send directly to HRF, specialists in emergency aid and appeal, who will utilise funds for the benefit of Ukraine.

Ian Ormondroyd, Bradford City FC Community Foundation chief executive, says he too has been touched by the plight of the Ukrainian people and wanted to find a way the charity could help them.

He says the appeal has seen people hand in donations at the Bantams club shop, including a man, born in England with Ukrainian relatives, who gave clothing.

Mr Ormondroyd said: "It's terrible what is going in in Ukraine.

"We were wondering how we can support the effort and how we can support people the best way we can and get things to them.

"We have had a few people who have come into see us to give money and donate essential items."

Meanwhile, people in Bradford have been given advice on how they can offer a place in their home to Ukrainian refugees.

Migration Yorkshire have launched a Spotlight on Ukraine Facebook page, which gives information about how residents can register offers of housing for refugees arriving in Yorkshire.

The group says it is not yet sure of all of the logistics of how it will work, but is compiling a list of possible destinations for Ukrainian refugees.
