A BRADFORD man was finally able to bask in the glory of winning thousands of pounds on The Chase after the episode aired this evening.

“That was one of the best performances we have seen on this show," claimed chaser Shaun Wallace to Brian Farmer backstage after the Odsal resident got the better of him on two occasions to take home £22,000.

Brian filmed the ITV show back in September but had to keep his winning secret under wraps for six months.

At 5pm on Monday, family and friends gathered at the Salthorn Club in Oakenshaw to watch the tense 60-minute showing.

The 51-year-old could not have got off to a better start, earning a remarkable £9,000 in the opening cash builder round.

After witnessing the impressive play, the chaser went on to table offers of -£6,000, £9,000, and £54,000 in the head-to-head stage.

Brimming with confidence, Brian jumped at the chance to make a name for himself.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

“I whooped him and got back to the final. £66,000 with three people playing,” Brian said before going on to recall the tactics behind such a magnificent win.

He added: “I said to my team (made up of himself, Emma, and Lizz) I will lead this and if I don’t know an answer, I will look at you both then you can have a crack. I said don’t interrupt me and buzz in. I rattled through and got to 18 steps.

"I unsettled Shaun Wallace a bit because I kept mouthing to him ‘I love you’. It was a bit of intimidation.

"As we were about to go to the break, I said, ‘Shaun Wallace you are about to have a bad day at the office’ and everyone started laughing. He got his first question wrong. I got it right, so we were up to 19.

"As it went on, he got another two wrong and we got them right. I remember seeing he had 17 seconds left and had to get tons of questions correct. I knew then that Bradley (Walsh, the host) would not be able to ask the questions quickly enough.

"He got one right and then one wrong. We beat him with three steps to go.

"The timer went out then all the lights went up in the studio. I couldn’t believe that we had won."

Despite the defeat, ‘The Dark Destroyer’ was complimentary of Brian’s efforts and they have since become friends.

Brian also credits Bradley Walsh for being such a superb host.

He added: “Shaun Wallace is an absolute legend. He comes across on TV as miserable but that is his on-screen persona.

"I met him again at an exhibition in London and asked if he remembered me and he did. We both exchanged numbers and we text all the time.

"Bradley is just so lovely and warm. He makes you feel so relaxed. It’s as if you have known him for years.

"He is the type of man you want to go out for a drink and spend a bit of time with."

Brian explained the secret behind his success and how he plans to master another popular quiz show in the future.

“I seem to have a fabulous ability to retain useless items of knowledge. I don’t know where I get it from, I just remember all sorts of everything.

"I want to try Mastermind. Before that, I am going to write a book called ‘how to beat a chaser’ (chuckles).

"I plan to spend the money on getting out to the Baja 1000 (an annual Mexican off-road motorsport race)."

Quizzes are not the only thing Brian excels at, he is also a successful businessman and racing driver.
