A MAN is to face Crown Court for allegedly driving and damaging a police car and assaulting two police officers.

Steven Hare, 55, of Wrigley Avenue in the Bierley area of Bradford, has been charged with five offences in relation to an incident on January 28 and May 28 last year.

One offence - assault by beating of an emergency worker - was linked to January 28, while the other four are all alleged to have happened on May 28.

These four offences are: using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third party insurance, assault by beating of an emergency worker, criminal damage to property valued under £5000, and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

The case was first heard at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court on Wednesday (March 2).

Hare pleaded not guilty to all five offences and elected trial by jury.

It was sent to Bradford Crown Court for March 30.

It is alleged Hare was driving a police car (a blue Volkswagen Golf Hatchback) on his street - Wrigley Avenue - last May without insurance.

He allegedly assaulted a Police Constable, when they were trying to exercise their duty, and also caused damage to the force vehicle.

Hare is also alleged to have been carrying a baton, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, in nearby Ferrand Avenue, on the same day.

Earlier in the year, on January 28, it is alleged Hare assaulted a police officer.

Hare is on unconditional bail until the date of the trial at the end of this month.
