A NEW pet shop that specialises in raw and natural animal products has opened in Bradford.

Doggy Delicious opened its doors in Thornton last weekend after taking off as an online business during the pandemic.

Couple Paige Link and Kevin Wilcock are behind the business.

Kevin said: “At the moment we sell dog accessories, dog food and dog treats. We started off in November 2020 from home in lockdown, and the reason why we did it was because of furlough and the uncertainties of my partner keeping her job so we started a small business ourselves.”

The food is free from all additives and chemicals, which Kevin says can be beneficial to the dog’s health.

“Everyone’s on with the raw food at the moment because it benefits the dog, it’s better for the dog and you know what’s in it. It’s not like loads of additives in it and it’s not all processed, it’s just raw meat for the dog.

And in lockdown everyone got a dog so you can imagine how busy it can get at times,” he said.

The couple first started selling their products online and they now have more than 6,000 followers on Facebook.

He added: “We just started selling natural treats from home which went really well so we then took on selling raw dog food, and that took off really well as well.

So we ended up filling a space at home and our garage, and then we had to put freezers in my partner’s nan’s garage, and then we outgrew that so we thought why not take the plunge and open the shop, which we did last weekend.”

Paige wanted to start making her own dog treats from scratch, but then decided to purchase items from a wholesaler which “all sold out within the first weekend”.

Kevin added: “She loves dogs to bits and she’s always wanted to be her own boss but if you ever asked me three years ago if I’d be selling dog food I’d say don’t be silly, but it just kind of happened.”

He explained how there has been an increase in demand for raw dog food, and said they were the first of the kind to open in Bradford.
In the future, the couple are looking at the possibility of increasing opening times and expanding.

The shop is at Unit 8, Redbeck Mills, Imperial Court, Thornton Road, BD13 3NW.
