DOUGHNUT restaurant Krispy Kreme has submitted plans for a new addition at one of its stores in the area.

The sweet snacks seller has submitted the application to build a new sign at its site in Centre 27 Business Park in Birstall, just off Gelderd Road near Junction 27 of the M62.

If approved, it means a new illuminated totem sign would be installed at the site to replace the existing sign, which is described as being "tired and having out of date signage".

The new sign would feature an internally illuminated sign bearing the logo, and another sign reading 'Hot Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Now', also internally lit up.

The area is heavily populated with other restaurants which have their own totem signs, including McDonald's, Starbucks Coffee, Frankie & Benny's, Taco Bell, KFC, and the most recent addition of Tim Horton's.

The Krispy Kreme unit, which has plenty of indoor seating, a drive-through and ample parking, has been operating at the site in Birstall since 2011.

Planning officers at Kirklees Council will now consider the application before making a decision, with a target date of Wednesday, April 20, set out for the plans to either be approved or refused.
