A BOARD member at Horton Housing Association is close to completing a gruelling challenge which he took on to support refugees from Afghanistan.

In April 2021, Ray Milne vowed to walk 5km every morning during the week and 10km a day on the weekends for a full year.

Since he began his challenge, Ray has raised £1,195 of his £5,000 target – money which Horton Housing Association will use to continue supporting Afghan families who have recently arrived in the UK under the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy.

“There are some incredible walks in West Yorkshire, so it became really enjoyable to do them every day,” Ray said.

“I have been out when it has been raining, snowing and hailing, so that has made it a little more challenging at times. Some of the paths can get very muddy too.

“But I am fitter than I have ever been, so I will definitely keep walking long after the year has passed.

“It feels great to raise money for the incredible causes Horton supports.

“Their work with families from Afghanistan is one of the fantastic opportunities to raise money for, and if I could hit my target from all these walks, that would be brilliant.”
