NETWORK Rail have confirmed why a number of Bradford Interchange trains going to and from Leeds were delayed or cancelled this morning.

At around 7.30am, a vehicle got wedged under a railway bridge on Swinnow Road in Bramley causing a blocked line between the two stations.

Network Rail teams worked to remove the vehicle and check for any damage or debris, so that trains could run normally through Bramley and New Pudsey again by 8.10am.

They say while they did this, trains in the area were stopped or diverted to keep everybody safe.

On the railway, these type of incidents are known as bridge strikes.

Network Rail have been running a ‘Wise Up, Size Up’ campaign since 2018 to help tackle this certain issue.

It comes following a fault with the signalling system between Bradford Interchange and Leeds causing some lines to be blocked towards Leeds earlier this morning.

That issue was solved at around 7.30am.
