A MAN who set up a £12,000 cannabis farm at his home because he was sick of paying a drug dealer for the large amount he used has been sentenced to a suspended term of imprisonment.

Paul Jackson, 37, of St Margaret’s Avenue, Bradford, grew the 55 plants from seedlings and paid someone £250 to bypass the electricity meter to heat and light them, Bradford Crown Court heard.

He pleaded guilty to production of cannabis on October 6, 2020.

The court heard that the crop would have yielded 3.3 kilos of cannabis worth £12,900.

Jackson had 30 previous convictions for 53 offences but nothing for anything to do with drugs.

He said all the cannabis was for his own use and some would be made into oil.

He had been addicted to the drug for more than 20 years and was fed up of having to buy it.

Recorder Anthony Hawks sentenced him to six months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with 50 hours of unpaid work.
