A DECISION on contentious plans to build a petrol filling station on the site of a former pub will finally be made this week.

Plans for the old Prince of Wales pub site on Harrogate Road first went before Bradford Council's Bradford Area Planning Panel days before Christmas.

The application by Farook Asmal called for a petrol station, small shop and two EV charging bays to be built on the site - at the junction with Leeds Road.

There had been numerous objections to the plans from residents concerned that the business could make an already busy junction even more unsafe.

Rather than refuse the plans, the panel deferred their decision to a future meeting - asking for the applicant to come back with a report on how the development might impact traffic.

That report has now been completed, and the plans will go before the panel when it meets on Wednesday.

Officers have recommended the development be approved.

Concerns new filling station and shop on former pub site would cause traffic problems

A report to members says the traffic report found that similar developments led to a 14 per cent increase in journeys to the area.

Highways officers said: "When applied to the proposed development this equates to around 15 new two-way vehicle trips during the AM and PM peak-hour periods, equating to only one additional vehicular movement every four minutes."

They point out that the pub would have generated traffic, and previous plans for the site - including a dentist and shops, would have also attracted extra traffic.

Officers add: "The proposed layout provides adequate parking, circulation space and provision for servicing. The scheme also includes EV charging points and a cycle stand."
