A RESTAURANT founded in Bradford has retained its Bib Gourmand rating after this year’s Michelin Guide was published this week.

The Bib Gourmand is handed to restaurants that fall just below earning a coveted Michelin Star for their food and dining experience, with Michelin saying it is a “just-as-esteemed rating that recognizes friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices”.

The Michelin Guide for 2022 was released on Wednesday, with a number of new entries across the board in the Bib Gourmand and then one, two and three-star sections.

The only restaurant in the Bradford area to make any of the lists is Prashad in Drighlington, which retained its place on the Bib Gourmand list.

The vegetarian Indian restaurant was founded in Bradford in 1992 by Kaushy and Mohan Patel, serving as a community hub serving the best Gujarati snacks and dishes to all who visited.

In 2012, the restaurant moved to new premises in Drighlington, taking over the former Victoria pub in Whitehall Road, and since then it has gone from strength to strength, picking up various awards and being included in the Michelin Guide and receiving AA Rosettes.

Now run by Bobby Patel, one of Kaushy and Mohan’s sons, with his wife Minal running the kitchen and continuing to elevate its menu.

A total of 122 restaurants in the UK have received a Bib Gourmand in 2022 – 16 of which are new entries for this year.

On Prashad, the guide reads: “Set over two floors of a former pub, this colourfully decorated, family-run restaurant offers interesting, original Indian vegetarian cooking inspired by the owners Gujarati heritage.

“Dishes are substantial in both size and flavour and spicing is well-judged; the dosas are popular.”

In a post on their Facebook page, Prashad said: "We are thrilled to announce that we have retained our prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand.

"It’s an honour to hold such an accolade for many years, we will continue to improve and aspire to the the next level.

"Head Chef Minal and the team are waiting to serve you an amazing meal, she says try her seven course tasting menu, it’s her finest moment."
