POUNDLAND has confirmed that Fultons Foods stores will be closing their doors for good – including those based in and around Bradford

The frozen food specialist, which was taken over by Poundland in 2020, has stores on John Street in Bradford's 'top of town' area, as well as, Cleckheaton.

Poundland has turned a number of Fultons Foods stores into Poundland or PEP&CO stores however with the remaining 42 stores across the country this does not seem to be a viable option.

A spokesperson for the Bradford, John Street store, said: “We were told on January 25 that this store would be closed, it came as a bit of a surprise, and we don’t know when we will officially be closing down.

“We have a meeting with our area manager soon and we’ll see what happens.

“A lot of customers are saying that they’re sad to see us go.”

A Poundland spokesman said: “We announced to colleagues last month that Fultons stores that hadn’t already been converted to a Poundland format would sadly close, but we’ll do all we can to find the team there opportunities to transfer to a Poundland store or other openings elsewhere in our business.

“Just by way of a bit of context, over the past 18 months, we’ve opened chilled and frozen departments in over 250 Poundland stores and will open another 100 this year. By the end of September 2022, we expect that Fultons, the frozen food specialist we acquired in October 2020, will be powering the chilled and frozen offer in over 350 Poundland stores – and we aspire to have well over 500 in time.”

Store closures will take place over a period of weeks rather than closing their doors immediately.
