PIONEERING boxer Nicola Adams, who has links to Bradford, and partner Ella Baig are expecting their first child.

Adams, who attended Bradford College and trained at Huggy’s gym in Spring Mill Street, off Manchester Road, announced the news on Instagram yesterday.

The 39-year-old has been dating model Baig for four years and has spoken in the past about her desire to have children in the future.

The couple said: "We’re so excited to announce that our family is expanding.

"After what feels like a lifetime, we can finally say we’re going to be parents.

"We’re so excited to share this magical journey with you all, the ups, the downs everything in between.

"Welcome to the world little one."

Adams made history by winning the first female boxing Olympic medal in 2012.

She followed that success by grabbing another goal medal in the Rio Games four years later.

In 2017, the flyweight turned pro and captured a WBO title during her six fights over a two-year spell.

The Leeds-born fighter and professional dancer Katya Jones made history in 2020 as Strictly Come Dancing's first same-sex couple.

In the end, they had to withdraw early after Jones received a positive Covid-19 test result.
