A WOMAN has been jailed for carrying a knife in B&Q, as it was the third time in the past 10 years she was caught with a weapon.

Gina Barker, 41, of Thornbury Grove in Bradford, was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court last Wednesday (February 9).

She pleaded guilty to possessing a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place and theft from a shop back on June 5 last year.

The case was adjourned a number of times for various reasons from that point, including for a pre-sentence report and no appearance in answer to bail.

Both offences relate to January 13 in 2021, when Barker visited the B&Q store in Beeston, Leeds.

She stole two Boeur drill batteries and two drill battery charges of the same brand from the DIY shop.

The items came to a value of £220 in total.

Barker was caught carrying a Stanley knife in the store.

The court deemed the offence to be serious enough for jailtime, as it was the third time in 10 years Barker had been caught in possession of a weapon.

Barker's guilty plea was taken into account when imposing the sentence and the matter was also not committed to Crown Court as a discount for the same reason.

There was no separate penalty for the theft from shop offence.
