A group of kind-hearted volunteers from Baildon are celebrating after their charitable efforts during the pandemic helped them pass a £100,000 fundraising milestone.

The Baildon Support Group – which celebrates its 30th birthday next year - is one of the longest-running groups of its kind in the local area and raises crucial funds for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope, which provides expert palliative care and support to people living with life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families.

Despite the coronavirus outbreak putting a halt to their usual fundraising activities in 2020, the 10-strong group didn’t let it dampen their spirits and pulled together to start a homemade cake and afternoon tea delivery service, delivering delicious, sweet and savoury baked goods to people’s homes in the local area.

Since then, the delivery service raised an impressive £7,900 to support the hospice’s compassionate care and bereavement support - taking the group’s overall fundraising total for the hospice to £107,730 since its inception in 1993.

Jenny Bolshaw, one of the founding members of the group, said: "When we first set up the group I don’t think we ever imagined that it would be so successful and we would manage to raise such an incredible total for Manorlands."
