FLIGHTS are being sent back to where they came from and departures are being delayed as the wind is picking up at Leeds-Bradford Airport (LBA).

Storm Dudley is battering the country and Bradford, with The Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for wind across most of the UK.

The fearsome force has started to take hold in the city and surrounding areas this late afternoon, with downpours reported across the district and the wind picking up significantly.

In the most exposed areas, the storm is expected to bring gusts of up to 90mph.

One of those areas is LBA, in Yeadon, which is the high airport in England, and is notorious for bumpy take-offs and landings in high winds.

Today's weather is seemingly beginning to make an impact on flights arriving and leaving the airport.

A Ryanair plane coming from Warsaw Modlin, in Poland, and due to land at 3pm, was turned away at LBA and diverted to Liverpool.

Meanwhile a British Airways flight and an Aer Lingus plane coming from Belfast City, due in at the same time (4.05pm), have both been sent back to where they came from, after reaching the air above West Yorkshire.

The KLM plane from Amsterdam to LBA that was due in at 4.45pm, has been diverted to Teesside.

Two further flights were also diverted as we moved into the evening.

This included the 6.45pm Jet2 service from Tenerife South and 9pm Ryanair service from Dublin.

The former diverted to Birmingham instead, while the latter was sent to Liverpool.

The second-to-last flight of the night - a KLM plane coming in from Amsterdam - was due to land at LBA at 9.55pm, but instead touched down just over half-an-hour later, at 10.27pm.

Meanwhile, the final flight of the day, coming in from Liverpool (Ryanair), was set to arrive at 10.15pm, but is now expected at 10.41pm.

Departures are also being severely delayed.

The Ryanair flight to Warsaw Modlin, in Poland, is still yet to take-off, despite being due to leave more than an hour ago, at 3.25pm.

Meanwhile the 5.15pm KLM flight to Amsterdam had been delayed by half-an-hour at one point.

But that was since cancelled and anyone who was meant to be on that service should contact the airline.

The final depature of the evening, the Ryanair flight to Dublin, is currently set to take off more than an hour-and-a-half later than it was supposed to.

The service was expected to take to the skies at 9.25pm, but now has an estimated depature time of 11.pm.

Ten flights in total were due to land at LBA today.

The issues began with the very first flight of that schedule, as the EasyJet plane coming in from Belfast International was diverted to Liverpool.

Seven flights were due to depart in total.

The first service, a Jet2 flight to Tenerife, was delayed.

Originally scheduled for 8.20am, it was airborne at 9.49am.
