THIS is today’s latest weather forecast as Storm Dudley gets closer to hitting in Bradford.

The storm is set to roll in at 3pm today (Wednesday), bringing very strong winds and rain with it.

People are being warned to take care due to the wind, which has the potential to close roads, bring down powerlines, uproot trees and damage buildings.

The Met Office has warned that there is a “risk to life” from flying debris.

In Bradford, the wind is already picking up with 18mph winds and gusts of 39mph.

From midday, heavy rain looks very likely, with a 95 per cent chance of rain throughout the afternoon. This is when the wind will pick up too.

When the weather warning comes into force at 3pm, winds will step up to 21mph with gusts reaching 45mph, getting stronger through the afternoon and evening peaking at 8pm with 25mph wind and 52mph gusts. In exposed areas this could reach 60-70mph.

Temperatures are staying steadily in the low teens during the afternoon before dipping to high single figures for the rest of the day, however with windchill taken into account it is unlikely to feel any warmer than 8°C.

The Met Office has said: “Storm Dudley to bring a spell of very strong winds and a risk of disruption later Wednesday and into the small hours of Thursday.”

This includes disruption to road, rail and air services, the potential for fallen trees and damage to buildings, the risk of power cuts and the risk of injury or death from flying debris.

The Storm Dudley weather warning lasts from 3pm today until 6am on Thursday, before another weather warning comes into force on Friday for Storm Eunice.

Currently there are six more flights set to depart from Leeds Bradford Airport for the rest of the day, with five set to take off after the Storm Dudley weather warning comes into force.

There are nine flights due to arrive at the Yeadon airstrip, eight after 3pm when Storm Dudley begins.

Currently, none of the flights have been cancelled, delayed or diverted. However the 8am arrival from Belfast into Leeds Bradford was diverted to land at Liverpool.
