People from Bradford have racked up hefty fines this month for failing to produce a valid rail ticket.

Khalid Mahmood Khan,39 from Jermyn Street, Barkerend, Bradford travelled between Crossflatts and Bradford Forster Square station on August 10, 2021.

Khan intended to avoid the rail fare of £3.40 for his journey and failed to produce a ticket when asked.

He was issued with an Unpaid Fares Notice in good faith.

Khan failed to pay the fare within the 21-day period and after a letter and phone call requesting him to pay the unpaid fare, a fine was issued.

Khan has to pay £3.40 in compensation and £150.00 towards prosecution costs.

In total he has to pay £153.40.

Furthermore, Paul Jon Micheal of Acacia Park Crescent, Rawdon, Bradford travelled between Kirkstall Forge and Leeds on May 28, 2021, without a valid ticket.

He was issued with a Penalty Fare Notice for either £20 or twice the single fare, whichever was greater.

After failing to pay the Penalty Fare Notice within the 21 day period, Micheal was issued a fine.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £3.30, fined £220.00, pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £34.00, and to pay costs of £150.00.

In total, he was fined £407.30 and has to pay this before March 7, 2022.

Failing to provide a ticket or proof of rail fare has been illegal since 1889, under section 5(1) of the Regulation of Railways Act.
