AN amber warning is being issued on Wednesday and Thursday for Yorkshire and Humber as the region is expected to be battered by strong winds from Storm Dudley.

The Met Office is issung the amber warning for Yorkshire and Humber between 6pm on Wednesday and 9am on Thursday as Storm Dudley is expected to bring a period of very strong and disruptive winds.

Very strong westerly winds are expected to develop across western Scotland and northern Northern Ireland late Wednesday and extend eastward across southern Scotland and northern England during the evening.

There is still some uncertainty in the timing and location of the strongest winds but there is the potential for inland wind gusts of 70 to 80 mph in places.

Gusts of 80 to 90 mph are possible around exposed hills and coasts.

Road, rail and air services may be affected, and some roads and bridges could close leading to longer journey times and cancellations.

The Met Office warned it is probable that there will be some fallen trees and damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

They also said there is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

The Met Office also warned there could be injuries and danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties.
