A BRADFORD teenager has been ordered to pay £22 and referred to a youth offender panel for three months after being caught with a BB gun in Leicester.

The 15-year-old male, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to possessing an imitation firearm in a public place at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court last Monday (February 7).

The teenager had a BB gun on him in Victoria Road East, in Leicester on March 27 last year.

This was without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.

BB guns are a type of air-propelled weapon that are designed to shoot metallic spherical projectiles called BBs.

The term "BB gun" is also regularly used to describe airsoft guns, which shoot plastic pellets.

The teenager first appeared at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on January 31.

But the case was adjourned to this month for an interpreter.

The teenager was referred to a Bradford youth offender panel for three months by the court.

He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £22 to fund victim services.

The 15-year-old's parent or guardian will have to pay this by March 7.

The court also ordered the BB gun to be taken off the teenager.
