SOME river levels across Bradford have hit high levels as the weekend deluge of heavy rain in the district continues.

Measurements from the Flood Alerts and Warning Service show that Bradford Beck in Shipley has hit high levels, while river levels in Skipton have also crept above normal through today.

At Bradford Beck in Shipley, the river level has doubled since this morning as rain continues to fall, putting it at risk of potentially bursting its banks if the rain continues.

Skipton Eller Beck has shot up from 33cm this morning to 1.13 metres currently as rainfall continues to make the river rise higher, while at Eller Beck reservoir the levels have doubled so far today to over a metre deep.

The River Aire in Cononley has also seen its levels rise sharply today; just after midnight at this measuring point it was two centimeres deep, but now it has risen to a high level and is now 114cm deep.

At the rest of the measurement points across the district, all rivers remain at normal levels so far.

There has been heavy rain throughout the weekend across the district, but so far waterways are managing to cope, with no flood alerts or warnings in place in the area either.

This morning the River Aire in Saltaire had risen by more than 20 centimetres in the last 24 hours, remaining well within the ‘normal’ range; standing at 67cm, and needing to rise another 43cm before it is considered to be at a high level. It has currently risen another 11cm through the day.

The River Worth in Keighley had also risen by 20cm overnight and has continued to rise through the day, but river levels need to more than double before there is any risk.

Bradford Beck in Greenside has risen slightly over the weekend and has another 17cm to rise before it gets to high levels, but the levels continue to creep higher.

There is currently one flood warning and nine flood alerts in England, but they are all either in the Lake District, South West, and in Bridlington.
