A MAN was left stranded in the rain after getting caught driving without valid insurance.

The motorist was spotted driving his blue Vauxhall Astra in the south of the city by officers from the Steerside Enforcement Team earlier today.

THe vehicle showed as being uninsured on police systems, so officers pulled the vehicle over.

When approached by police, the man behind the wheel "produced a photo on his phone of his 'insurance policy'," officers said, but they were not convinced by this.

Steerside officers carried out checks with the insurance company, and they confirmed the man did not have valid insurance.

As a result, his car was seized and the driver for reported for the offence of driving without insurance.

Drivers can receive an on-the-spot fine of up to £300 and six points on their licence for this offence; if the case goes to court they face an unlimited fine, a possible driving ban, and their vehicle can be destroyed.
