A LARGE cordon was in place this morning outside a major West Yorkshire hospital following a street fight between two men.

Beckett Street, which runs alongside St James’ Hospital in Leeds, was taped off by police following the scrap in the early hours, with the cordon lifted around an hour ago.

This morning, buses were having to be diverted due to the blockage which also restricted some access to the hospital.

The cordon has now been lifted however, allowing traffic to flow freely once again and access to the hospital to resume.

Two men have been arrested over the incident and police enquiries are continuing.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called at 2.06am this morning to Beckett Street, Leeds, to reports of a fight between two people.

“On arrival officers located two men who have since been arrested on suspicion of affray. Enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting crime reference number 1322079156 or use the live chat facility the West Yorkshire Police website.”

Information can also be passed on anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
