THOUSANDS of people across Bradford and Yorkshire are skipping meals due to financial concerns caused by the cost of living crisis.

New figures have revealed that more than a third of people in Yorkshire skip breakfast to save money, while a fifth of people skip at least one meal a week due to financial pressures.

The research, carried out by breakfast brand Fuel10K, found 22.9 per cent of people in Yorkshire are missing meals at least once a week due to money worries, the second highest figure in the country.

It also found 38 per cent of people in Yorkshire have skipped breakfast in the past year to save money - however this figure is one of the lowest in the country.

The figures come as rising food costs and energy bills place increasing pressures on household finances, with a quarter of households in England set to be plunged into fuel poverty when the energy price cap shoots up in April.

Nutritionist Thalia Pellegrini said: "Skipping breakfast can have a negative impact on both our mental and physical wellbeing for the whole day - and that's avoidable for far less than people think.

"Having 'fasted' overnight, you need to kick-start your energy with a nutritious breakfast and you don’t have to spend fortunes to do it."

Barney Mauleverer, co-founder of Fuel10k, added: "Millions of people are sometimes missing out on meals, usually breakfast, because of money worries."

To address this issue, the company has partnered with food redistribution charity FareShare to donate a portion of porridge for every porridge pot it sells during February, which is projected to be 500,000 portions handed to those most in need of help.
