Editor’s note:  The defendant’s solicitors, BKP, reported that, before trial, the prosecution said it would be offer no evidence and the charge against Mr Ali of threatening and abusive behaviour was being withdrawn.

A BRADFORD man who allegedly said "you're a f***ing d***head you muppet" to an officer at a railway station is facing trial today.

Ismat Ali, 29, of Aireville Crescent in the Frizinghall area, is charged with unacceptable behaviour on the railway.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence on June 8 last year and will appear at Doncaster Justice Centre North today.

The charge relates to a journey Ali is said to have made on December 2, 2020.

It was a rail journey from Frizinghall Railway Station to Bradford Forster Square Railway Station and Ali is alleged to have used threatening, abusive, obscene or offensive language.

The 29-year-old is alleged to have been unable to produce a ticket for the journey and the "buy before you ride" policy was explained to him, in that it was an offence to travel without a ticket.

Ali was issued with a Penalty Fare Notice.

It is then alleged that Ali said to the officer at the Bradford Forster Square barriers, as he exited the station, "you're a f***ing d***head you muppet".

Ali was sent a letter requesting an explanation.

A telephone call was received, this was followed by a written response.

No further correspondence was entered into.
