A MAN was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after armed police were deployed to an address in Shipley.

The Telegraph & Argus previously reported over the weekend that officers swooped on the address and now police have confirmed the reason why.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, police attended the property on West Royd Crescent for a pre-planned arrest operation.

A 33-year-old was arrested and was later bailed pending further enquiries.

Cllr Vanda Greenwood (Lab, Windhill and Wrose) and her fellow ward councillor Susan Hinchcliffe went to the street on Sunday to speak with the police and reassure residents.

A police spokesperson said: "Armed officers were deployed to an address in the Shipley area in the early hours of Saturday morning on a pre-planned arrest operation.

"A 33-year-old man was arrested from the address on suspicion of firearms offences and was later bailed pending further enquiries."
