SIR,
Although the 70th anniversary of anything is worthy of note, not least of all the accession in 1952 of Queen Elizabeth II, the scale of 'celebrations' planning and now announced is excessive and completely inappropriate to the desperate times this country and the ordinary people are suffering.
Hungry children, homeless adults, many unemployed, plus millions waiting for NHS care! Some in pain, others may die before treatment is available etc.
On top of this we are in a serious cost of living crisis by the double whammy of inflation and exorbitant energy costs!
So, to spend millions of pounds we don't have, or declare a four day bank holiday weekend, to me is a waste of time and money.
I am aged 78, and remember 1952 aged eight and saw some of the 1953 coronation on my late parent's first ever, 12" black and white TV.
Mr D Boyes, Upper Rodley Lane, Bramley (of Bradford descent)
