PLANS to turn a former travel agents into a new hairdressers in a local town centre have been approved.

The application will see a salon created in Ivegate, Yeadon, in the place of a travel firm that had operated out of the unit for 30 years.

It was Bird Holidays for 30 years until, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, it closed in March 2020 and never reopened.

In an added quirk, the agency had never applied for a change of use on the building so it was still listed as being used for an arcade or amusements, but this has now been changed to a hairdressers.

Located next to The Crown pub, the unit will be brought back into use and will be kitted out by owner Jessica Lyon with all the mod-cons of a salon.

In approving the plans, Leeds City Council planning officers said the salon would "aid the vitality and viability of Yeadon town centre and enhance the character of Yeadon Conservation Area".

It also said that with two parking spaces to the front, and a pay and display car park opposite, there would be no detrimental impact on traffic and highways in Yeadon.
