Councillors outraged after man is stabbed on Bradford estate

A cordon was put in place on Grayswood Crescent following a call to police at 9.53am.

When at the scene, officers found a 27-year-old man with stab wounds to his arm.

Once taken to hospital, it was discovered that his condition was not life-threatening.

As of this evening, police said enquiries remained ongoing.

Tong Ward councillor Alan Wainwright (Labour) was fuming when he heard the news that something like this had happened in his area.

“It is absolutely appalling, a bloody disgrace,” he said.

“It seems to be a national problem. It is an epidemic across the country – every time you turn the news on someone has been stabbed. You have had murders in Doncaster, Sheffield, down south, it is all over the country.

“It was so early in a morning too, just after the school run. It is on the way to Ryecroft Primary Academy where it happened.

“The police do a marvellous job to say they are under a lot of pressure.

“If we knew how to stop incidents like this we would be rich. You have got police patrols, wardens, youth clubs and other things for people to do, so it beggars belief.

“People throughout Holme Wood will be feeling the same as me without doubt.”

Fellow Tong Ward councillor Matt Edwards (Green Party) was also concerned and trusts the police to get to the bottom of it.

He said: “It’s obviously a great concern to hear something like this happening in Holme Wood but the police response has been quick.

“It is a relief that the person's injuries are not life-threatening and I hope anyone with information can supply this to the police to help with their investigation.”

A spokesperson from the Force said: “Police were called at around 9:53am this morning to Grayswood Crescent, Bradford to reports that a man had been stabbed.

“When officers arrived, a 27-year-old man was found with stab wounds to his arm. He was taken to hospital where his condition is not described as life threatening.

“Enquiries remain ongoing.”
