OVER £330,000 will be spent on improvements to play areas in the Bingley area - with one popular park getting a £200k upgrade.

In late 2019 Bradford Council announced it would be spending £6.4m on improving play areas across the District.

The first play area to benefit from the fund was the District's busiest one - at Lister Park in Manningham. A £650,000 play area refurbishment was opened last year.

Until recently there had been no detail on what further parks in the District would benefit from the cash.

Bingley Councillor Marcus Dearden (Lab) recently pushed Council officers for more details on when play areas in the town might receive some of the funding.

He was told that in the next phase of works the play area at St Ives Estate would get a £200,000 upgrade.

The play area in Jerr Wood would have £35,000 worth of improvements, and the one in Myrtle Park will receive £57,000.

£45,000 will be spent on the play area at Eldwick.

Cllr Dearden said there would also be work to football pitches in Eldwick, and says he has "urged the Council to carry out the improvements at the earliest possible opportunity."

Details of funding for other areas are expected in the coming weeks.
