BRADFORD’S MPs have been having their say following the publication of a redacted ‘update’ to the Sue Gray report earlier today.

In the report, civil servant Ms Gray revealed she has been investigating 16 gatherings on 12 dates from May 2020 to April 2021, and that the Met are investigating all but four of the gatherings.

Ms Gray interviewed more than 70 people during her investigation, some more than once, and examined various documents including WhatsApp messages, photos, and building entry and exit logs.

She found some of the gatherings, amid the backdrop of lockdowns and the ongoing pandemic, were "hard to justify", and that some represented "serious failure to observe the standards expected of the entire British population".

She called out "failures in leadership and judgement" and said "some events should not have been allowed to take place", while also condemning the "excessive drinking a professional workplace", which she branded "inappropriate", a term she also used when describing social gatherings in the Downing Street garden.

She also said some staff felt unable to raise concerns about behaviour they were seeing.

Following the report, Prime Minister Boris Johnson took to the House of Commons to apologise and said “lessons will be learned”, announcing plans for major reform of the workings of Number 10.

Leader of the Opposition Keir Starmer said Mr Johnson lacks “honesty, integrity and decency” and called on Conservative MPs to oust their leader as he refuses to resign, saying “the eyes of the country are on them”.

Bradford East MP Imran Hussain called on the Prime Minister to resign.

The Labour MP said: “Throughout this entire process, Boris Johnson has been taking people in Bradford for fools, stating no parties ever took place in 10 Downing Street and all rules were adhered to.

“But after months of evasion and denials, the Prime Minister’s deceit and lies have now caught up with him.

“Whilst heavily redacted, the Update of the Gray Report makes clear there were multiple breaches of lockdown rules in 10 Downing Street, and confirms the Prime Minister has now been placed under police investigation for breaching the rules he himself put in place.

“Such behaviour is unbecoming of any minister and proves they are unfit for office, let alone the Prime Minister. The country deserves a leader, not a liar, and it is time Boris Johnson resigned.”

Alex Sobel, Labour MP for Leeds North West, added in a tweet: "I was in the statement by the Prime Minister on Sue Gray's report.

"It's clear there were systemic failures in Downing Street which the Prime Minister was responsible for but he isn’t taking responsibility.

"He’s creating more bureaucracy to abdicate responsibility and keeps failing to lead."

Bradford South’s Judith Cummins, Bradford West’s Naz Shah, Shipley’s Philip Davies and Keighley’s Robbie Moore have all been approached for responses to the Sue Gray report’s findings.
