AN inquest into the death of a young man killed in a horror crash on a busy road in the district has been opened.

Curtis Dominik, 24, from Bradford, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened shortly after 5am on Saturday, January 22.

He was in a silver Hyundai Terracan, which was travelling along Whitehall Road towards Chain Bar roundabout, when it left the road and landed in a field.

Police investigating the crash have arrested five people in connection with the incident, including a male who was believed to have left the scene before police arrived.

During the brief hearing, held remotely at Bradford Coroners’ Court yesterday, coroners’ officer Jane Dawson said Mr Dominik was identified by officers from West Yorkshire Police through fingerprint evidence.

Assistant coroner Angela Brocklehurst said: “This is a death arising from a road traffic collision and as such will require considerable investigation by the police.”

She set out the various reports she would require, and when by, including a forensic report, a statement from Mr Dominik’s family, a GP report, as well as a post-mortem and toxicology report.

Mrs Brocklehurst suspended the inquest, as requested by police, until February 28.
Scores of tributes have been paid to Mr Dominik following his death and a fundraising page has been set up to help pay for his funeral. More than £600 has been raised.

Organised by Jodie Hodgen and Toni Dominik, the Go Fund Me page says it has been set up to give Curtis “the send -off he deserves”.

It adds: “We tragically lost Curtis at a very young age in a tragic car accident. He was a much-loved son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson and friend.

“He would do anything for anybody. Anyone who knew Curtis would not have a bad word to say, he was a joy to be around.”

In a book of condolence set up by the Telegraph & Argus, Joanne Buck wrote: “Such a sad loss of such a well-loved young lad, and a good friend to many.

“You have left a massive hole in your family’s hearts.”

Faye Mcghie wrote: “RIP Curtis my school friend, I hope heaven is beautiful, very sad sending my condolences to your family.”

Christine Waterworth added: “So sad to hear this today. I remember sharing funny stories with you at junior school. RIP young man.”

Sharon Hudson described him as a “lovely lad”.
