SIR - Bob Watson is way wide of the mark in calling for Susan Hinchcliffe's resignation over failures in Children's Services.

The Susan Hinchcliffe that I know is totally honest, ridiculously hard working and diligent in her duties and does a brilliant job in very trying circumstances. The government has stripped tens of millions of pounds from its support grant and this is a large part of the problem.

Susan does not micro-manage any department; she has political oversight and does a very good job of that. Failures of management in Children's Services have been addressed and she is the right calibre of person to oversee the improvements needed.

I can only conclude that Bob is making a political attack; in which case could I ask him to direct his ire at our current Prime Minister, who is a total disgrace and demeans his office.
