A BRADFORD woman faces a bill of over £400 after dodging rail fares.
Chetna Briggs, 36 of Longfield Drive, in the Cutler Heights area of Bradford, was travelling between Bradford Interchange and Blackpool North on Friday, July2 2021 when she failed to produce a railcard for the discount she had used for her ticket.
Briggs bought an anytime day return ticket with Friends & Family Railcard discount but she was unable to produce the railcard when asked.
She stated that her family had travelled on the previous train to her.
Briggs was issued with a £20 Penalty Fare Notice or to pay twice the single fare, whichever is greater.
She failed to pay the Penalty Fare Notice within the time and a reminder letter was sent to her address.
Briggs was fined £220.00, must pay compensation of £22.10, a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £150, bring the total bill to £426.10 for failing to pay a rail fare of £22.10. She must pay before February 8, 2022.
