A WOMAN has been given a suspended prison sentence for stealing almost £6,500 worth of perfume from the Bradford city centre shop where she worked.
Mewishi Aslam, 34, of Sr Margaret's Road, Shipley, appeared in court on one charge of theft by employee.
She was jailed for 12 weeks, suspended for 12 months, for stealing perfume products from The Fragrance Shop, The Broadway, Hall Ings, Bradford, over a 15-month period between August 18, 2017 and November 10, 2018.
She was also ordered to pay £500 court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
The total value of the perfume products taken over this period by Aslam from the shop was £6,448.50.
Aslam was given the sentence due to the value of goods stolen and a breach of employer trust.
She must also comply with requirements of a supervision order over 12 months. This includes a curfew requirement with electronic monitoring for eight weeks between 9pm and 6am each day until March 10, 2022.
Aslam initially pleaded not guilty at a hearing on February 19, 2021, but after a summary trial she was found guilty of the charge on January 7, 2022.
She was sentenced at Leeds Magistrates' Court on January 14, 2022.
