A FORMER nursery could become flats, if a fresh planning proposal is approved.

The plans would see the old Laugh and Learn Day Nursery, in Oldfield Lane, Heckmondwike, converted into four apartments.

It has not been used in a number of years as a nursery, standing empty just outside the town centre.

The area contains a mix of business premises and housing, which the plans say mean it being used as flats would be a suitable use for the building, despite having no designated off-street parking spaces.

If approved, there will be two self-contained flats on each floor; one flat on each floor would have one double bedroom, bathroom and open plan kitchen and living area, while the other two would have one double bedroom, and an additional single bedroom.

The site is flanked on one side by two residential properties and a veterinary practice, while on the other side is a dog grooming studio and a nail bar.

It overlooks a small green and is just a short walk from the centre of Heckmondwike.
