BAD Boy Chiller Crew says it is a great day for Bradford after they were crowned winners of a prestigious music award.

The rap crew have been named as the MTV Push UK & IRE annual artist shortlist winners for 2022.

The Bradford-based group, who started out in 2018, went head-to-head with nine shortlisted candidates, including ArrDee, Cat Burns, ENNY, Holly Humberstone, Lola Young, Priya Ragu, Shaybo, Wet Leg and close runner-up Thomas Headon.

Fans voted in their thousands in the MTV contest, with votes for the two top spots more than doubling in the final week of voting.

After a neck-and-neck battle with Thomas Headon and campaigning in the Telegraph & Argus, the band achieved victory with 36 per cent of the vote.

Bad Boy Chiller Crew follow in the footsteps of previous MTV Push winners Nathan Dawe, YUNGBLUD, Lewis Capaldi, Mabel and AJ Tracey, all of whom have become household names.

BBCC said of their win: “MTV and BBCC just fit together don’t they? We knew we’d win. It just makes sense.

"It’s a great day for the fans, it’s a great day for BBCC. It’s a great day for Bradford. MTV thank you!”

The MC trio is made up of West Bowling's Gareth Kelly and Kane Welsh and Sam Robinson who both grew up in Eccleshill.

The shortlist included 10 of the hottest up-and-coming acts of the year, selected by MTV officials, with the eventual winner voted for by their dedicated fans.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

The MTV prize is the latest success for BBCC after the band had a national tour and a six-part documentary series on ITV2 late last year.

In the past 12 months the rap crew have released a debut album Full Wack No Brakes, EP Charva Anthems and a whole host of singles, been played on BBC Radio 1, and drew huge crowds to their sets at Reading and Leeds Festivals, as well as headlining Bradford Dance Festival.

They also held a homecoming gig in October last year at St George's Hall in Bradford as part of their autumn tour.
