A LARGE hedge caught fire at a home near Rodley roundabout this afternoon.

Stanningley Fire Station was called at 1pm to the house on Horsforth New Road to a report of a hedge fire.

A spokesperson for Stanningley Fire Station said: "There was a controlled burning of garden waste and then the wind caught it and it spread to the hedge."

A section of conifer hedge six metres long and three feet tall was burned out.

The spokesperson also warned people to take care when burning garden waste.

He said: "If you're burning garden waste give enough space because when the wind gets up, which it can at the drop of a hat, it can cause a fire to spread quickly."
