A LOCAL couple has launched an online sweet shop after their successful trial run over the festive period.

Brad Drake,33, and his fiancée Rebecca Sheard,29, who are based in Mirfield, will launch the Peachy Keen Candy shop today, Friday, January 21, inspired by their favourite film Grease.

The website will launch at 8pm with their original three mixes- The classic, Throwback Retro, and the Fizzy Mix.

Brad said: “We’re really excited for this to go live. When we trialled the festive sweet mixes, we were sold out before Christmas.”

Rebecca who owns a successful bakery, Bakezilla, in Nottingham was forced to close during the pandemic and used the time to explore other avenues her business could take, starting with postal brownies.

She said: “I tried a number of things to make up for all the wedding cakes I wasn’t baking, and the sweets just really took off.

The couple started a TikTok page for their sweet business and received heaps of positive feedback.

Brad added: “We made reels of us making the mixes and the sound of all the sweets going in and the colours, people really enjoyed watching them.”

With the business only just starting up, the duo is working behind the scenes on a range of seasonal ideas and mixes.

“We want to start off with our three standard mixes, but we will be adding mixes along the way; we’ve got three that we’re looking to get out by next month- the gluten-free, vegan and Halal range.

“A lot of people have been in touch via our socials requesting specific sweets and mixes and we are looking at expanding in time.

“By October, we hope to have at least 10 mixes as part of our standard collection.

Peachy Keen will sell seasonal sweet mixes and with the site launching so close to Valentine’s Day, a Valentine’s mix is in the works.

“We just want to have fun with sweets and people really seem into the idea of mixes.

“We are looking to branch out further with personalised collections for weddings and other events but for now we have our three mixes.

“There are so many ideas and plans in place but it’s only the start.”

Sweets will be distributed from premises in Mirfield and delivered nationally; the mixes will be made in Rebecca’s Nottingham store.

The shop’s Facebook page is currently thriving with content, and clients from Rebecca’s baking business have followed her along on her new venture.

“Small businesses need support and we’re so glad that people are already interested in our brand before we’ve even officially launched.”
