A BRADFORD man has been jailed after being caught driving a stolen car while banned and making off without paying for diesel three times.

Darren Heeps, 26, of Idle Road, appeared before Leeds Magistrates' Court on January 18 and was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison.

He pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods, driving while disqualified and three counts of making off without payment, all in April and May 2021.

The handling stolen goods offence took place on May 3, 2021, in Kirkstall Road, Burley, Leeds, where he was spotted driving a stolen vehicle. He was ordered to pay £500 in compensation.

Driving while disqualified related to the same date and location, and he was further disqualified for 20 months.

He received no separate penalty after admitting using a vehicle without third party insurance.

Heeps also admitted three separate incidents of making off from a filling station without paying for diesel - at the Esso Broadway service station in Horsforth, BP service station in Gildersome, and Asda petrol station in Morley, between April 22 and May 3, 2021.

The value of diesel totalled £192.72, and he was ordered to pay the total amount in compensation, as well as a victim surcharge of £128.
