AN energy company have said they are going to rectify the "unacceptable work" they did on a road marking in the Bradford District.

A resident was left bemused when he came across a bizarre bus stop marking, completed by Northern Gas Networks, in Harden.

Long Lane was dug up over Christmas for works, while the children from the nearby Harden Primary School were off on their festive holidays.

On New Year's Eve, upon completion, Daniel Wakefield walked along the road and came across a strange sight.

The bus stop road markings had obviously been re-done but not in the same font as the one used in its previous appearance.

Before it was changed, although the lettering was faded, it was rounded like you would typically see throughout the district.

However, now the writing is more flamboyant and just looks peculiar.

Daniel labelled the markings a "real mess" and hopes those responsible will come out to fix it some time soon.

He said: "They've filled it in and re written the 'Bus Stop' lettering, but it's been done terribly.

"All of Christmas they had temporary traffic lights over the middle of Harden.

"On December 31, a went for a walk, saw it and thought ‘What the hell is that?’. It just looked like a real mess.

"Before that it just looked normal with the curved bus stop lettering. It had rounded letters instead of being angular.

"It looks like it was someone’s first job, or they didn’t have the right tools. It looks like someone has only done half a job.

"Hopefully they come back out and redo it."

Well, Daniel has got his wish as Northern Gas Networks have accepted the blame and are working with Bradford Council to correct their mistake.

Chris Nevison, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: "We’re responsible for reinstating the road surface after completing our works, and we fully accept that this time, the work has not been of an acceptable standard.

"We want to rectify the issue as soon as possible, so we’re working with the council to find a suitable date to go back and put this right as quickly as we can."

When approached by the Telegraph & Argus, a Bradford Council spokesperson added: “These works have been carried out by Northern Gas Networks and we have contacted them to ask for the road markings to be re-done.”
