AN ICONIC tourist attraction in West Yorkshire is going to be transformed into a film set at the end of the month, and speculation is growing among locals about what and who will star in the undisclosed movie.

Owners of The Piece Hall in Halifax have confirmed that filming will take place, but are yet to publicise exactly what for.

Nicky Chance-Thompson DL, CEO of The Piece Hall Trust said:“We can confirm that The Piece Hall will be closed while filming takes place between 24 – 31 January. It’s a great coup for this iconic venue but we are unable to share any more details about the precise nature of the production at the moment.”

However, locals in the area are speculating that Jambalaya, Marvel's much-anticipated Secret Invasion series, starring Hollywood legend Samuel Jackson is going to be filmed there.

Filming for the series began in London last year, and other stars rumoured to be appearing include The Crown's Olivia Coleman and Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke.

David Wilson, Director ofBradford UNESCO City of Film said: "The Bradford Film Office has had a really busy start to the year so far with numerous location recces for a wide range of productions.

This appears to be the pattern across the whole of the UK based on discussions with other film offices last week. It looks as though 2022 could be a real bumper year for film and TV production across the UK and Bradford and the wider Yorkshire region will have a good share in this."

From January 21, there will be road closures in place around The Piece Hall and the filming team will be preparing the area for filming, including setting up large lighting frames and rigs.

Rowan Newman, a T&A reporter who lives in the area said: “The other day I noticed a large proportion of the hall had been fenced off. Upon reading why, I discovered that it was due to an exciting new Marvel TV series being filmed there.

"Although it may be an inconvenience for a week or so, I think it is great that Halifax is getting put on the map globally. We have had Gentleman Jack shine a positive light on the town in recent years and I think this will once again do just that.”

Businesses inside the Piece Hall will be shut while filming is taking place from January 24, and there will be no access to The Piece Hall.
