A BRADFORD man who serves in the military has been deployed to Scotland to serve as a team leader at four different Covid-19 vaccination sites.

Lee Barker, 46, of Bradford, who is based at RAF St Mawgan in Cornwall, is a team lead for the largest military vaccination team currently in Scotland, covering four different vaccination sites.

He volunteered to be part of the readiness list and in November received 24 hours’ notice that he would be deployed to Scotland.

NHS Scotland gave Lee and his team a five-day stand down over the Christmas period.

Lee said: “It was nice to be able to spend time with family and see the kids.”

Lee says it feels good to support to NHS workers and experience something so different to his day role as a watch commander.

“People are really supportive and thankful of us being here, people are really friendly.”

When Lee first arrived in Scotland, he was surprised by the number of people who were being vaccinated each day and the amount of time people patiently waited in line.

“You get a really good feeling when you see the impact your team is having and the queue getting smaller.”

Lee is very thankful to the Scottish people and the NHS workers they are supporting.

He says working in Scotland has shown him how challenging it can be for frontline workers and he is extremely thankful to them for their efforts since the start of the pandemic.

Lee encourages members of the public to get vaccinations and follow the rules.

“The more people we have vaccinated and boosted, the stronger we will be.”
