I DON’T think that playing the National Anthem every night on TV should be restored as is the wish of Tory MP Andrew Rosindell

It was abandoned by the BBC at the end of programming in 1997, when they began broadcasting the BBC News channel, but Mr Rosindell wants it brought back for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

I remember the days when the anthem was played at the end of films in the cinema and people stood up. It always made me feel a bit uncomfortable.

Gary Lineker was spot on with his Twitter comment on the proposal: ‘let’s be less British and more North Korean.’

If anyone does miss it, the anthem is still played nightly on Radio 4 before the handover to the World Service.
